According to the book, the flipped classroom is an innovative blended delivery model that currently has a following in k-12 and post secondary education. Its beneficial because they try to make resources for all students to learn. Students listen to pre-recorded lectures before coming to class, so students are already familiar with the material before they come to class. It helps students become more active learners. Teachers are using so many different initiatives around the world to make the flipped classroom more prominent.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ojiebVw8O0g The open classroom steadily rises over time. Its great for educators because its shared teaching, learning and research resources. This is very helpful in the classroom because teachers need extra resources sometimes to help with the instruction in their classroom. Also, its saves time for teachers from long lesson planning and classroom interruption because you can gain information quicker. The we...

It's a vast amount of adaptive technologies that can be used to support learners. Specifically, writing can be very difficult for kids with special needs so they have created specific technologies that would assist them better. For example, word processing, concept mapping, word prediction and text to speech programs are some of the many technologies that helps special needs students. These can only be effective if its paired with great teaching capabilities. PowerPoint can be used to support student learning at each level in the classroom because its very easy to understand if its done correctly, and You can easily draw connections among different ideas to help your presentation flow smoothly. For instance, If I were teaching a lesson on sight words and I used power point to present it to the classroom then I would create a PowerPoint that's edgy, fun, and age appropriate. Secondly, I would evaluate my findings to be sure that I am giving the most accurate presentation. Thir...

My experience with twitter has been very interesting so far. Although I am use to using a lot of emojis on my own personal account, I tried not to make it as casual but more educational. There are a lot of benefits to twitter specifically for teachers because it's a platform for them to educate, inform and learn. So far, I have not experienced any issues with twitter or posting but I have learned a lot just by scrolling through other educational profiles. I have acquired a lot from working on the web page design assignment because it has taught me more skills that I didn't already know about creating a web design. I liked the creative and brainstorming part about doing the web page. I can definitely improve on formatting my web pages, and learning more about creative ideas I can put in my web designs. Website The new skills that I have acquired from Diigo, are for annotating paragraphs and using the different features. It can be useful in the classroom becaus...

I chose to do a prezi for my ILP #1 on Kindergarten tools and resources for parents and students. I really enjoyed this activity because I got a chance to show off my creativity and passion I have for teaching young children. In my prezi, I will be giving educational  tools and resources for parents to have a successful kindergartner. I hope you enjoy! Because my high school didn't have school pages, I took the liberty of searching for a school that had class pages for the specific grade that I would love to teach which is Kindergarten. The website that I found was Glenkirk elementary school https://glenkirkes.pwcs.edu/class_pages/k/ . What's very interesting is most of the elementary websites that I visited are set up the same way. On this specific website though, all the information is public. On the contrary, they only have information about their summer reading program and things that that have learned from the month of September. I assume that they are using this page as a reference for parents to see what their child has learned for the month and upcoming information that they will need to know.  I envision myself using technology in my classroom quite often. Specifically, PowerPoint because its easier for me to present as well as do hands on activities with my students. Because I have chosen to teach kindergarten...

The web 2.0 tools that have been useful to me the most are twitter and youtube . In high school a lot of my teachers used youtube but I never really used twitter for classes until I got to college. In the podcast she spoke about blogs, wiki, twitter, and diigo. She said you can get students to actively and directly  engage in the classroom using web 2.0. I also thinks its very useful, especially for parents when you have kids in elementary. Its a very effective way to stay in communication with parents.  An interesting web 2.0 tool that i found was  http://edu.glogster.com/ . It has various uses such as making notes in your lecture, presenting projects, sharing virtual trips, etc.  I think this site would be a new way to capture educational learning in a different light. As a student I use to hate making posters all the time and now technology has come up with ways you can make digital posters.  I am honestly amazed by augmented real...

When I created my twitter for this class, I didn't know who I should follow. So, I started following everyone that was educational and/or people from the class. I found it to be very beneficial because I got to see others opinions on technology and education as well. Honestly, I'm not sure if twitter would be helpful to me in my future career because of the grade that I prefer to teach which is kindergarten. I feel like twitter would be helpful for high-school  teachers or college professors. The digital divide affects students success in schools because most of the students especially African Americans and Hispanics do not have access to a lot of technology at home so its very difficult for them to keep up with instruction. The causes of digital divide separates the students, causes them to fall behind, and usually the parents cant afford what teachers need as far as devices, and internet. I may experience some students that are not fortunate...

The ELA technology standard that I feel most prepared to teach is Write to explain// inform, I am most comfortable with writing and helping people understand/ comprehend . However I am not as comfortable with multimedia and using digital media. Therefore, that is something that will require me to gain more knowledge on first and then I will be ready to teach that as well. Chapter 9 was all about learning how to use the web and how to educate others on using it as well. Because I am teaching kindergarten at the elementary level, its going to be a little more critical to teach them about technology. However at that age, kids are so eager to learn new things and their mind is so bright at that age, so it shouldn't be hard to get their attention especially with electronics. Things that I should address as a teacher is cyber bullying, releasing personal information on the internet, and taking necessary steps to build their online presence while protecting their identity. ...

I have used microsoft word for so many things over the years. It started in middle school when students started writing essays to prepare for what was called writing FCAT back then. So, we used microsoft word the most throughout the year. At first, I didn’t like using it because it was a lot to grasp but it was until my 9th grade year when  my teachers started to use it a lot more so I eventually became good at using it. Additionally, when they introduced different aspects to microsoft to the classroom I immediately became fascinated by it. Consequently, when it became a requirement to start taking technology classes that’s when everything became more advanced and hard to grasp with microsoft for me. Honestly, I’m not very familiar copyright and fair use of materials because I wasn't exposed to it. Consequently, after reading the text I have gathered more information and now I see what has been going on. In high school, my teachers used many materials for practices that weren’t...

Using technology has had a huge influence on students and teachers in the world today. Honestly, using it gives teachers a easier way to create different ways in teaching material, while giving the student fresh new styles of learning. Its honestly all about how and what you teach that can help technology be better accepted and influenced in schools today.  I prefer using technology in my instruction because I know how draining it was learning from a book and word of mouth from my teachers. Additionally, for me it puts students in this narrow box, limiting their learning because it's so many ways you can use technology to teach now. According to the ISTE standards the most important standard to me is being a learner. I truly believe you must be a learner first before you can be able to educate someone else. Additionally, it’s good to always be able to learn more and be able to keep up with the current trends in education. Honestly, Improving student learning for yourself and o...

Introduction

Hello to all,  My name is Kambria Thompson and I am a 4th year sociology major with an education minor. Unfortunately,  I wasn't able to join you guys on the first day so I wanted to formally introduce myself.  My experience with technology is little to none, but I am always open to learning new things. However, I do remember taking a technology class in high school but that was mainly working with power-points and excel for the most part. I really enjoy learning new ways to change and improve my abilities within the educational sector. In this class I hope to learn new and fresh ideas to help me for my future in teaching. I am ready to learn from a new teacher and so far all of the education classes I have had has been great. With that being said, I am looking forward to the semester and learning something fun, edgy and new.
